Kabaneri of the iron fortress episode 1 review
Since the synopsis covered the 90% of the event happened in the first episode i won’t re-explain what happened in the first episode, although i will cover the remaining 10% and will give my opinion on the first episode.
As the synopsis says the story of the Kabaneri of the iron fortress is based on the industrial revolution which is suffering through Zombie Apocalypse, although zombies here in the series are called with new name known as Kabane. Not knowing the reason where these kabane appeared from, the people have built stations to shelter themselves, the people use steam locomotives to travel from one place to another. If a normal person is bitten by kabane he is transformed into kabane. So this series is your typical zombie apocalypse series.
The zombie in the series are the undead people and have their heart covered with a layer of Iron. Typically in a zombie apocalypse series there is one basic rule which is always followed and that is – “You can always kill a zombie by smashing his head,” Kabaneri of the iron fortress did something different, in this series their are two ways of killing a zombie (not mentioned in synopsis), First is you can kill them by piercing their heart which is covered by the layer of iron (as i mentioned in synopsis), and the second way is killing them by beheading them.
The Main character of the series is “Ikoma” a boy who lives at Aragane station. Is building a new weapon that can pierce the heart of Kabane, He helps building the locomotives, the people who arrive at Aragane station goes through mandatory inspection to check if they are bitten by the Kabane, during that time he meets Mumei a girl who’s excused from mandatory inspection. After that a person who is suspected to have bitten by the kabane runs away, he is chased by the authorities so they can kill him before he is transformed.
Ikoma understands that the man is not bitten by kabane and tries to cover him because of which he is suspected and thrown into the prison, at that night he meets Mumei once again and notices that Aragane station is attacked by kabane. Ikoma runs back to take his new weapon which is kept in his room but there he is attacked by a kabane, although he manages to defeat kabane with his new weapon, but he notices that his bitten by the kabane on his hand, as he notices the virus spreading throughout his body he decides to stop the spreading virus and reverse the transformation.
He wraps himself (his upper body) tight with a belt to slow down the speed of virus spreading inside the body to its maximum limit and then chokes his neck, as his hearts pumps more blood, he coughs it out because of which the transformation is reversed and he comes back to normal. Although this is just a theoretical explanation on how he reversed the transformation but his determination of not transforming into kabane played the big role. Also the guy (Main character) designed the weapon to defeat kabane its obvious that he must have known a way to reverse or stop the transformation with his long research. In the mean time Mumei defeats another Kabane by behanding him and i have to admit that she herself is pretty badass…
